SSPC VIS 2, "Standard Method for Evaluating Degree of Rusting on Painted Steel Surfaces"

SSPC VIS 2

Assessing the condition of existing coating systems and estimating the percentage of corrosion on industrial structures and in facilities can be very challenging. SSPC created a visual guide to help an assessor conduct a better coating condition assessment and make the process more uniform and the data more meaningful. Based on ASTM D 610, "Standard Test Method for Evaluating the Degree of Rusting on Painted Steel Surfaces," SSPC VIS 2 provides 27 color photographs and black/white images illustrating 9 different percentages of corrosion (ranging from 0.03% to 50%) for each of three types of rusting (pinpoint, general and spot rusting). Use of the Guide enables the assessor to characterize both the type and percentage of corrosion present on the surface.
