Using Coatings Inspection Instruments was written to assist contractors, facility owners, coatings inspectors, engineers, coating manufacturers and other coating professionals with the proper use of inspection instruments, industry standards and guides, and surface contamination analysis test kits. It contains step-by step instructions in easy to read language, and provides illustrations demonstrating each step to help ensure proper use.
The KTA publication by W. D. Corbett is organized into ten modules. Each module contains detailed instructions for the proper use of instruments for measuring ambient conditions and surface temperature, surface profile depth, wet film thickness, dry film thickness (non-destructive and destructive), for testing the adhesion of coatings, evaluation of concrete surfaces, and for detecting pinholes and holidays in coatings and linings. It also describes the use of industry guides for assessing the level of surface cleanliness after abrasive blast cleaning, hand- and power-tool cleaning, waterjetting and wet abrasive blast cleaning, and describes the proper procedures for sampling and testing surfaces for soluble salt contamination. Finally, formulas for calculating the wet film thickness for both thinned and unthinned coating materials are provided. A series of workshops, complete with a list of required equipment are included. Printed in the USA.
